Hold the Phone! Do You Still Have a Landline?
“I’m in the phone booth, it’s the one across the hall…” Love that song. But apparently, love for the beloved landline is fading. As of 2023, about 27% of U.S. households have a landline, while 73% only have cell phones. Interestingly, landline usage varies by region. The Northeast has the highest, with over 40% of adults in New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, and New Jersey living in households with landlines. Idaho, Oklahoma, and Wyoming? Not so much. Age-wise, 88% of adults 25–29 rely exclusively on cell phones, while only 47% of those aged 65 and older do the same. Hmm…I wonder if there are any stats on the percentage of people who miss hanging up on somebody by slamming down the phone.
