Taurine. Not Just for Energy Drinks.
Taurine might rhyme with “boring, “but it’s anything but. This amino acid, a common ingredient in energy drinks, is getting some buzz for its potential impact on longevity. Naturally present in our bodies, it’s added to energy drinks to amp up athletic performance, sharpen mental focus, and dial down fatigue. While evidence backing these claims is limited, studies have shown that taurine supplementation led mice to live 10-12% longer and were healthier than their taurine-free buddies. Even Bryan Johnson includes it in his list of Top 3 anti-aging compounds. (More on Johnson in later articles.) Are we on the brink of a taurine-fueled fountain of youth? That’s a stretch, but for now, pass me that can of Monster.
